On Our Way to Big Bend

On the way to Big Bend National Park, we stopped at Amistad National Recreation Area and Marathon, TX. We also took a day trip to Seminole Canyon to see our friend, Louise.

At Amistad, we stayed at the Laughlin Airforce Base FamCamp at Amistad Reservoir. We enjoyed the sunsets and view of the lake. We watched the bats at dusk. The lake is beautiful and clear, but it was too cold for kayaking while we were there.

Marathon is a cute and tiny town along the railroad and highway 90, just north of Big Bend. The RV park has full hookups, a shower, a washer and dryer, and telescopes for stargazing. It’s a short walk to the local restaurants (only one, Oasis Cafe, is open every day). There are Mountain views and a country road to walk with Cooper.
